The dance stage is one of Jeffrey's favorite environments for working with light. In many cases, the stage is inhabited only by the dancers, the choreography, music, and lighting. Lighting sets the scene, helping to convey mood and movement, enhancing the visibility of gesture and subtlety.
After a substantial break from designing for dance, Jeffrey is thrilled to be designing productions for his hometown company: Charlottesville Ballet.
Previously, he designed lighting for the Greensboro Ballet, and various modern dance and dance theatre companies.
In 2001, Jeffrey moved to New York City and leveraged his experience on the stage into an architectural lighting
design career that explores the impact of lighting in the built environment. Over the last 16 years, he has worked
with notable domestic and international architects and designers; contributing to successful and award winning architectural
projects across a wide range of applications.
He has contributed to projects as a Senior Associate with the following companies:

Jeffrey's work on the stage has spanned 20 years of collaboration with community, educational, and professional theatre companies around the country. Work in this space is always exciting and provides an outlet for passion and creativity. Here are a sampling of some of these collaborations.
Since 2006, Jeffrey has been involved with the lighting of festivals and events on the West Coast with the Do Lab, a Los Angeles based company recognized globally for the design and building of innovative structures and immersive environments. In 2010, Jeffrey took on a larger role in their Lightning in A Bottle (LIB) event, managing the production and design of the site lighting for the festival.
LIB 2011-2013: managed the power generation design and execution for the festival, in addition to the site lighting design and build.
LIB 2015: Site lighting department head; managed the development of a new site lighting plan for the Bradley, CA location and directed the installation of site lighting, structure lighting, functional, and back of house lighting.
LIB 2016: Site lighting department head and designed the lighting for the new Dragonfly structures, and for the Temple and Grand Artique stages.
In 2015, the Do Lab launched 2 new festivals; Woogie Weekend -a spin off from the popular Woogie stage at LIB, and Dirtybird Campout - an outrageously fun collaboration with the Dirtybird record label. ITC provided Lighting Direction for both festivals in 2015 and 2016 seasons.
Big Art reaches for what is at the edge of possibility. Structures imagined and built from the passion and dedication of some of the most committed artists. As a part of these teams, Jeffrey designs lighting solutions that bring these visions to life on the nighttime canvas of internationally renowned festivals including Burning Man, Coachella, and Lighting in a Bottle.
Artists he has worked with include:
Clan Destino
The Do Lab
