About

Jeffrey Porter Boynton, MIES, LEED AP

Principal/Founder

For 30 years, Jeffrey has applied his expertise and passion for lighting and lighting controls to landscapes and light, long range planning projects, lighting for museums, educational facilities, restaurants, private homes, transit and public works, renovations, large scale festival sculpture lighting, festival power and ambient lighting, lighting masterplans, and custom luminaire design. He brings complex visions and compositions to life in the medium of light and space with integrated and inspiring daylight and electric lighting systems.

Beginning with a wonder for the behind-the-scenes impact of lighting in theatre and live production and eventually progressing to a decade of work with notable domestic and international architects; he contributed to successful and award-winning architectural projects across a wide range of applications.

A strong advocate for environmental responsibility he served as the Chairman of the Sustainable Lighting Committee of the IES, which composed and published “IES DG-22-12 Sustainable Lighting: An Introduction to the Environmental Impacts of Lighting” in 2012 and has been actively involved in the updates to the document expected to be published soon. He also serves on the IES BIM committee and was active in the production of "ANSI/IES TM-32-24 Technical Memorandum: Lighting Parameters for Building Information Modeling“.

He is an expert in Revit delivery for lighting projects, utilizing parametric design tools for increased management control and efficiency in tracking key job issues such as energy code compliance and cost estimation.  An advanced user of lighting calculation software, Jeffrey has relied on AGI32, Diva4Rhino, and other lighting modeling packages as powerful tools for design information and communication.

Most recently, as a partner with Lighting Virginia from 2021-2025, he facilitated the success of many central Virginia lighting and lighting controls projects through effective sales channel support, troubleshooting, design and programming of lighting controls, and design assistance to the local architectural design, engineering and construction industry.

In 2026, he reimagines i5 Lighting Collaborative as an expert solo consultancy with a high level of personal attention to mission critical resolution of lighting issues in construction, specialized and targeted design consultation, strategic and training support for lighting industry issues and lighting design and controls application, process, and results evaluation.

A partner invested in better outcomes for the lighting industry and allied trades.
